Rocky Children’s Pond Derby – 2026

There's nothing quite like watching a kid land their first fish. Rocky Fish & Game Association's Kids Fish Derby brings families out to the Children's Fish Pond for a morning of casting, cheering, and a few good stories about the one that got away — and it's completely free.

Registration opens at 8:00 a.m. and runs until 11:00. Lines hit the water at 9:00 and fishing wraps up at 1:00, with awards at 1:30. Anglers are split into two age groups: Minnows (ages 3–9) and Pan Fries (ages 10–15). Every child who takes part goes home with a prize.

Our volunteers are on hand all morning to help with knots, bait, tangled lines, and the excitement that comes with a bobber going under. Anglers under 16 don't need an Alberta fishing licence, so all you really need to bring is the kids — and a chair for yourself.

Free hot dogs and drinks for everyone.
